Cycle Safety Training
This slideshow is of our cycle safety training day. We spent the whole hot day learning how to be safe on our bikes by learning how to control our speed, how to stop safely when we're going fast and then we learnt how to indicate clearly so we are safe around other traffic on the roads.

Personality Types
I just learnt that the link to the personality type test doesn't work.
Here are the Characteristics of Personality Categories for you to look at and discuss :)
Driver (Lion/Bear):
Objective-focused
Know what they want and how to get there!
Communicates quickly, gets to the point
Sometimes tactless and brusque
Can be an "ends justify the means" type of person
Hardworking, high energy ?Does not shy away from conflict
Expressive (Otter/Monkey):
Natural salesmen or story-tellers
Warm and enthusiastic
Good motivators, communicators
Can be competitive
Can tend to exaggerate, leave out facts and details
Sometimes would rather talk about things than do them!
Amiable (Turtle/Dove):
Kind-hearted people who avoid conflict
Can blend into any situation well
Can appear wishy-washy Has difficulty with firm decisions
Often loves art, music and poetry Highly sensitive
Can be quiet and soft-spoken
Analytical (Fox/Owl):
Highly detail oriented people
Can have a difficult time making decisions without ALL the facts
Make great accounts and engineers
Tend to be highly critical people
Can tend to be pessimistic in nature
Very perceptive
No one personality type outshines the other or is preferable to the other - but all complement each other in different ways. If you are choosing a team for a difficult task, it is a good idea to have representation for each on your team for a balanced approach to the task at hand.

Nelson Brass Academy
Nick Sharpe form the Nelson Brass academy came to our assembly on Friday. We saw brass instruments that looked gold, silver and kind of pink but we learned that they are all brass.
Mr Sharpe showed us a tuba, a cornet, and his friend Mr derek had a trombone. They played a funny music story at the end.

What caused the change in what schools are like?
We can see how different schools are now to when the Bishops School was used in the 1840's but why have they changed, what caused these changes to happen.
We discussed how Word War 2 had a big impact because up until the women mainly stayed at home but during the war they had to do a lot of 'men's jobs'. After the war it must have been hard for both men who had been fighting and women who didn't want to just be a housewife.
During the war orphaned children were adopted but lots of them were just taken to work for their new 'parents'. It was lucky there was a law passed in 1866 making sure all children went to school or else those children would have just been slaves.
Maria Montossori was an amazing woman. She was the first woman in Italy to get a doctorate of medicine. She worked with childern with learning difficulties and she believed a light colourful classroom with fun games and activities- she is credited with changing classrooms to the way they are now!
Homework this week is to comment on our blog.

Old School Day
These photos are of room 3 at the Bishop's School. We got to dress up in olden day clothes. We got to experience what school was like in the 1840's.
We were thinking what was different between the classrooms now and then.
They said that they did work all day!!
These are some of the things that different.
*Desks.
*Clothes.
*Teachers are more strict .
*They had canes and straps.

Woo hoo! 2010
Welcome to 2010 in Room 3.
What a great group of students!
We have already started finding out about our individual learning styles by completing quizzes on Multiple Intelligences (there are 8 different forms of intelligence according to Howard Gardner), Left or Right brain dominance which gives us an indication as to whether a person is more logical or creative, V.A.R.K (Visual, Auditory, Reading or Kinesthetic) to determine what form of instruction is easiest for us to learn from and on top of that we will also find out about our personality types.
Please take the personality type quiz on the links section of the sidebar.
All this information will help us to find out about our strengths and weaknesses so we can set goals in our learning this year and to recognise that not everyone learns the same way as we do!
I am looking forward to learning the results...
